Mérida International Classical Theater Festival presents new musical and flamenco productions

The 72nd Mérida International Classical Theater Festival has concluded its programming with the musical comedy “Las 9 Musas”. Written and directed by the collective of Xènia Reguant, Ricard Reguant, and Ferrán González, the production offers a contemporary reading of classical mythology. The play explores the paradox of the Muses as they navigate a modern world where technology and power threaten human essence.

In a separate production, Teatros del Canal, in collaboration with the Mérida Festival and the Community of Madrid, will present “Electra jonda” from September 5 to 18. Directed by Manuel Canseco and written by Juan Guerrero Zamora, this work reimagines the Greek tragedy of Electra within an Andalusian setting. The production uniquely integrates flamenco elements, including dance and singing, into the dramatic structure to heighten the tragic narrative.
