Mérida prepares for the return of the Desfile de Catrinas
The Desfile de Catrinas is returning to Mérida on October 31 as a central event of the Festival de las Ánimas. The celebration is expected to draw more than 55,000 attendees.
The parade will cover a 1.7-kilometer route, beginning at the Plaza Grande and concluding at the Gran Parque de La Plancha. The procession will feature 30 contingents and approximately 300 participants. Highlights of the event include a nearly four-meter-tall monumental Catrina, mojigangas (mobile sculptures), Mexican music, and a special Pok ta Pok performance. Additionally, a Monumental Mexican Altar will be installed at the end of Paseo de Montejo.
Local authorities have invited businesses along the Calle 47 Gastronomic Corridor, including hotels and restaurants, to decorate their establishments and participate. The event aims to promote regional Mexican traditions and encourage community engagement in public spaces.
