Mérida upgrades sports lighting with LEDs and holds first municipal law congress

The Mérida city council, led by mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, announced that the "Mérida Enchula" program has completed LED lighting installation in all 432 public sports spaces across neighborhoods and police stations, achieving 100% coverage. The project, costing more than 350 million pesos, also includes painting and maintenance of 200 parks and other upgrades to over 800 public areas.

In November 2026, the council will host the First National Municipal Law Congress, a three‑day event scheduled for 4‑6 November at the Dr. Silvio Zavala Vallado auditorium and the Center Cultural Olimpo video room. Around 340 participants—municipal officials, legal scholars, judges, students and the public—will discuss topics such as municipal autonomy, administrative justice, fiscal management, right to the city, territorial planning and sustainability. The congress is free and offers digital certificates to attendees with full participation.
