MRS Logística completes R$2 bn rail upgrade, opens integrated control center at Santos Port

MRS Logística inaugurated the Integrated Operational Control Center (CCOI) in the Baixada Santista, bringing together the operations of MRS, Rumo, VLI and the Internal Railway of the Port of Santos (FIPS). The 45‑person team will plan train movements up to three days in advance, aiming to reduce conflicts and improve efficiency for cargo trains accessing Brazil’s largest export hub.

The project concludes a R$2 billion investment that added six new rail yards, modernised more than 90 km of tracks, installed 126 new switches and advanced signalling over 34 km, and built a Cubatão viaduct and pedestrian bridges in Santos and Guarujá. The upgraded line can now accommodate trains up to 2.4 km long (120‑140 wagons) with axle loads of up to 32.5 tonnes. About 2,000 direct and indirect jobs were generated during construction, and the improvements are expected to boost the port’s handling capacity and logistics efficiency.
