Márton Nagy luxury travel expenses revealed

Data obtained through public interest requests reveals extensive luxury spending by former Hungarian Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy during official foreign trips. Over a three-year period, Nagy visited 51 cities across 32 countries, incurring approximately 52 million forints in accommodation costs, averaging 451,000 forints per night.

Reports indicate a pattern of staying in high-end hotels such as the Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, and Waldorf Astoria, often located far from official meeting sites. For example, during a trip to South Korea intended to discuss the battery industry, the delegation stayed at a luxury resort on Jeju Island, despite industrial facilities being located on the mainland. Similarly, during trips to Brussels, Nagy frequently stayed in luxury hotels in Antwerp or castle hotels over an hour away from the official venues.

Other notable instances include a stay in London costing 1.8 million forints for two nights and a three-night stay in Copenhagen totaling 3.8 million forints. In Croatia, rather than staying in the capital, Zagreb, the minister traveled to the coastal city of Zadar to stay at a Hyatt hotel. The expenditures also reportedly included the use of private jets for travel.
