Más Madrid files complaint over Real Madrid land rezoning

The political party Más Madrid has filed a formal complaint with the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor's Office and the Municipal Office against Fraud and Corruption regarding the rezoning of land in Valdebebas for Real Madrid.

The party alleges possible crimes of administrative and urbanistic malfeasance, fraud in public contracting, embezzlement, and falsification of documents. The complaint centers on an economic report prepared by the consultancy Savills, which reportedly contained a significant accounting error. According to Más Madrid, the report initially suggested the rezoning would benefit the Madrid City Council by 98 million euros in fees, but corrected figures indicate the actual amount is only approximately 1 million euros.

Spokesperson Rita Maestre characterized the discrepancy as suspicious rather than a mere error. The complaint also raises concerns regarding a potential conflict of interest, noting that Savills had previously performed feasibility analysis for Real Madrid before being hired by the City Council. Maestre highlighted that the president of the consultancy is the brother of former Community of Madrid President Esperanza Aguirre. While Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida has acknowledged the errors, he has stated that the rezoning process will proceed.
