MSC aims to develop Vietnam into a regional cargo transshipment hub

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world’s leading container shipping firm, aims to support Vietnam’s development into a regional cargo transshipment hub. During a meeting with Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, MSC CEO Soren Toft highlighted Vietnam’s economic growth and clear development strategies as key drivers for investor confidence in the logistics and seaport sectors.

In the Hai Phong port area, MSC intends to improve the operational capacity of existing ports to accommodate larger container vessels and develop inland container depots and transport infrastructure. In southern Vietnam, the group has expressed significant interest in the Can Gio International Transshipment Port project, which seeks to establish a large-scale hub connected to MSC’s global network.

MSC, which holds approximately 22 percent of the global market share, also plans to explore cooperation in rail transport and seaport projects in central Vietnam. The company intends to leverage its expertise in maritime shipping, logistics, and port operations to work alongside Vietnamese partners, including the Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC).
