Vietnam logistics and maritime infrastructure development
Overview
International shipping and logistics firms are expanding investments in Vietnam to enhance the country’s role as a regional transport hub.
MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has expressed intentions to support Vietnam’s development by improving operational capacity in the Hai Phong port area to accommodate larger vessels. The company is also interested in the Can Gio International Transshipment Port project in southern Vietnam and potential cooperation in rail transport and seaport projects in central Vietnam.
In northern Vietnam, Hateco Group and APM Terminals (a member of A.P. Moller – Maersk) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to research, invest in, and operate a network of railway freight stations. This partnership aims to develop a multimodal logistics ecosystem, including a freight station in Hai Phong with cargo processing and storage systems. The companies plan to research three additional locations to connect industrial and manufacturing centers with the seaport system, with preliminary total investments estimated at approximately $3.5 billion.
