MSF highlights refugee crises in Senegal and Burundi
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has launched a multimedia exhibition in Dakar, Senegal, titled ‘Humans in Transit: Stories of refugees in Libya and the Mediterranean (2015-2025)’. The exhibition features 310 portraits and six testimonial films documenting the experiences of migrants facing violence and exile. The project aims to humanize the statistics of migration by focusing on individual stories of those rescued at sea or treated in Libya.
Separately, MSF is warning of deteriorating conditions for 35,000 Congolese refugees in the Busuma camp in Burundi. These individuals fled violence from the M23 offensive in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The camp faces critical shortages in sanitation, with reports indicating only one latrine per 119 people and one shower per 242 people in September. As humanitarian funding decreases, many refugees are considering returning to the DRC despite ongoing insecurity and Ebola risks.
