MST protesters in Tocantins demand settlement rights
More than 50 families organized by the Landless Workers' Movement (MST) in Tocantins protested in front of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) headquarters in Palmas. The demonstrators are demanding urgent action to prevent the cancellation of the Taboca settlement project in Monte do Carmo.
The protesters are calling for the fulfillment of an official Incra notice that establishes the first selection process for 52 spots in the settlement. The families also reported ongoing agrarian conflicts, including intimidation by land grabbers and intentional fires set in community crops and subsistence fields during a period of severe drought.
