MST rally draws 10,000 in Sergipe demanding land reform

On Friday, 24 July, the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST) organized a large demonstration in Sergipe, Brazil, gathering about 10,000 participants at the viaduct in front of the Federal Highway Police on the outskirts of Aracaju. The protest was part of the nationwide Week of the Peasant, commemorating the 25 July Rural Workers’ Day, and called for the implementation of popular agrarian reform, the strengthening of family farming, and the protection of food sovereignty.

Speakers highlighted the need for policies that expand land access for campesinos, promote pesticide‑free agriculture, and safeguard natural resources. The march also honored the contributions of rural workers to Brazil’s food security and emphasized the broader vision of a just and sustainable countryside.
