Overview
On 24 July 2026 the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST) staged a large rally in Sergipe, drawing about 10,000 participants to demand land reform, stronger family farming and food sovereignty as part of the national Week of the Peasant. Speakers called for expanded land access, pesticide‑free agriculture and protection of natural resources.
In the weeks that followed, MST shifted from street protest to a series of outreach events. Beginning 29 July in Recife, the movement launched state fairs across Brazil to showcase agro‑ecological products and promote food sovereignty. Parallel to the fairs, an educators’ summit in Minas Gerais gathered teachers and activists to develop a “Pedagogy of the Movement” that integrates environmental and anti‑racist themes into rural schooling. Both phases aim to deepen community ties and advance the MST’s broader agrarian‑reform agenda.
