Mszana Dolna to commemorate 84th anniversary of Holocaust victims
The Sztetl Mszana Dolna Foundation, the Mayor of Mszana Dolna, and local educational and cultural institutions are organizing ceremonies to mark the 84th anniversary of the Holocaust in Mszana Dolna on Wednesday, August 19.
It is estimated that approximately 1,200 people were killed during the Holocaust in the town, including nearly 900 individuals executed at Pańskie. The victims included local Jewish citizens, displaced Jews, and several Christians of Jewish descent. The Sztetl Mszana Dolna Foundation also noted that a small Romani community from the town was murdered at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
The program includes a presentation on the lives and deaths of the local Jewish population, followed by visits to three sites of martyrdom: a grave on Ogrodowa Street, the site at Pańskie, and the Jewish cemetery. The main ceremony will take place at the mass grave at Pańskie, featuring prayers by cantor Avraham Taylor and the reading of the names of the deceased families. The commemorations will conclude with a concert by cantor Taylor and the Klezmorim Trio, performing psalms and Hasidic melodies.
