Holocaust commemorations in Polish towns

Overview

Local communities in Poland are organizing events to mark the 84th anniversary of the Holocaust and the destruction of local Jewish populations.

In Limanowa, a historical walking tour titled ‘In the footsteps of Limanowa Jews and their Holocaust in 1942’ is scheduled for August 16, 2026. Led by Karol Wojtas, the tour aims to visit sites associated with the 1942 destruction of the community as well as locations reflecting the historical coexistence between Jewish and Catholic residents.

In Mszana Dolna, ceremonies organized by the Sztetl Mszana Dolna Foundation and local officials are set for August 19, 2026. These commemorations honor approximately 1,200 victims, including local Jewish citizens, displaced Jews, Christians of Jewish descent, and members of the local Romani community. The program includes presentations on the lives of the deceased, visits to sites of martyrdom such as the mass grave at Pańskie and the local Jewish cemetery, and a musical performance by cantor Avraham Taylor and the Klezmorim Trio.
