MT Asharami Ghana delivers maiden LPG cargo to boost energy security

The MT Asharami Ghana, a 40,000-cubic-metre liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, has completed its maiden voyage to Ghana, delivering a 5,000 metric tonne cargo. The vessel is purpose-built to serve Ghana and neighboring markets, supporting the nation's goal of becoming a regional energy and logistics hub.

Ghana’s Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, stated that the arrival of the vessel is a significant step toward expanding access to cleaner energy solutions. He emphasized that achieving energy security and increasing LPG adoption requires strong partnerships between the government and private-sector investors.

Sahara Group’s Executive Director, Wale Ajibade, noted that the investment covers shipping, storage, and downstream distribution. The initiative aligns with Ghana’s target to increase LPG household adoption from approximately 30 percent to 50 percent by 2030.
