LPG infrastructure development in Ghana
Overview
The MT Asharami Ghana, a 40,000-cubic-metre liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, completed its maiden voyage to Ghana, delivering an initial 5,000 metric tonnes of LPG. The vessel is intended to serve Ghana and neighboring markets, supporting the nation’s objective to become a regional energy and logistics hub.
This delivery, alongside the commissioning of a new LPG facility at the Tema Oil Jetty, aims to strengthen Ghana’s energy security. The initiative aligns with national goals to increase LPG household adoption from 30 percent to 50 percent by 2030. Sahara Group, the vessel operator, noted that the investment encompasses shipping, storage, and downstream distribution to facilitate access to cleaner energy solutions.
