m:tel launches road safety campaign against distracted driving

The telecommunications company m:tel has launched its annual road safety campaign, ‘Leave your phone while driving’, ahead of the new school year. This initiative, which has been running since 2015, aims to remind drivers and road users that safety must take precedence over mobile device usage.

Data from the Republika Srpska Traffic Safety Agency indicates that approximately 25 percent of traffic accidents are caused by driver inattention, with mobile phone use identified as a primary factor in disrupting focus. Research suggests that the risk of an accident increases fourfold during moments when a driver is using a phone.

The campaign is being conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Republika Srpska, the Republika Srpska Traffic Safety Agency, and the Auto-Moto Association of Republika Srpska. Over the next month, visual messages featuring children will be used to remind parents and drivers of the importance of vigilance at pedestrian crossings.
