MTN Nigeria surpasses 100 million mobile subscribers

MTN Nigeria has become the first telecommunications operator in the country to surpass 100 million mobile subscribers. According to July 2026 data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the company recorded 100,859,587 subscribers, up from 98,643,681 in June.

This growth brings MTN’s market share to 51.76 per cent. Other major operators in the Nigerian market include Airtel, which holds a 34.26 per cent market share with 66,760,297 subscribers, and Globacom, which holds 12.13 per cent with 23,628,966 subscribers. T2 holds a 1.85 per cent share.

Total active mobile subscriptions across all networks in Nigeria reached 195,108,814 in July, representing a teledensity of 90 per cent. Gbenga Adebayo, spokesperson for the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), attributed the overall growth in subscriptions to stable regulatory policies from the NCC.
