MTVA travel expenses for former director Papp Dániel total 53 million for overseas trips
A court‑ordered disclosure revealed that the former head of Hungary’s public broadcaster MTVA, Papp Dániel, spent more than 53 million forint on four foreign delegations between November 2024 and July 2025. The trips included two visits to China (Chongqing and a Beijing‑Changsha tour), a cultural cooperation mission to Vietnam, and a broadcasting conference in Las Vegas. Costs were covered by the state budget and ranged from 9.4 million forint for the first China trip to 9.7 million for the Las Vegas trip, with additional hotel and transport expenses. Delegations typically comprised seven officials, while the Las Vegas delegation had four members. The disclosures came after independent MP Ákos Hadházy sued for the details, citing concerns that the delegations may have travelled business class and participated in costly activities such as helicopter rides. The case highlighted broader questions about the use of public funds for international media collaborations and led MTVA to reimburse the court costs.
