Muş resident preserves traditional pear storage method
İlhan Demirel, a 66-year-old resident of Muş, Turkey, has maintained a 40-year tradition of preserving autumn pears by stringing them on ropes. This traditional method allows the fruit to remain fresh for at least three months.
Demirel utilizes two varieties of Muş pears: 'female' pears, which ripen more quickly, and 'male' pears, which can last up to four months. The pears are harvested from local vineyards in Mongok, İncebel, Kale, and Mehmetcan. Due to high demand, the preserved fruit is shipped via cargo to various Turkish cities, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Bursa.
