Muhammadiyah field hospital opens in East Manggarai to aid earthquake victims

The Muhammadiyah Emergency Medical Team (EMT), verified by the World Health Organization (WHO), has established a WHO-standard Type 1 fixed field hospital in Dampek, Lamba Leda Utara, East Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The facility began operations to serve communities affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Flores on August 15, 2026.

According to EMT Muhammadiyah Chairperson Dr. Corona Rintawan, the mission is to strengthen the local health system rather than replace it. The team aims to ensure that local community health centers (Puskesmas) can continue to function optimally during the emergency. The field hospital is scheduled to operate until September 22, 2026.

Data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) indicates that 118 health service facilities in NTT have been impacted by the earthquake, with 1,674 people reported sick or injured.
