Muhoozi Kainerugaba asserts role as defender of constitutionalism amid political mobilization

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, has asserted his role as a primary defender of constitutionalism in the country. In a statement released on social media, Kainerugaba claimed that, alongside Yoweri Museveni and Afande Saleh, he is among the strongest protectors of the nation’s legal framework, citing his military service against the Lord’s Resistance Army as evidence of his commitment to national stability.

Simultaneously, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has intensified its grassroots mobilization efforts. During a registration launch in Mukono, former Minister Ronald Kibuule endorsed Kainerugaba for the presidency in 2031, describing him as a leader prepared to assume power and provide a new direction for the country. The PLU is conducting a nationwide drive to gather support for Kainerugaba ahead of the next presidential election, highlighting an increasing overlap between the PLU and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
