Muhoozi Kainerugaba endorsement drive gains momentum in Uganda

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is conducting a nationwide signature drive to support General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s proposed 2031 presidential candidacy. In Kisoro District, organizers reported collecting over 1,000 signatures during an event at the Mayor’s Garden, attended by local leaders and the State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Grace Akifeza Ngabirano.

In Mukono District, the mobilization has drawn scrutiny after reports surfaced of uniformed Uganda Police officers signing the endorsement book during a routine traffic stop on Jinja Road. The incident has sparked debate regarding Ugandan law, specifically Section 16 of the Political Parties and Organisations Act, which prohibits members of the security services—including the police, military, and prison services—from participating in political party activities or canvassing for candidates.
