Muhoozi Kainerugaba gains high-profile endorsements for 2031 presidential bid

Political momentum is building around Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s potential 2031 presidential bid in Uganda. The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has received a series of high-profile endorsements from government officials and business leaders.

Democratic Party president and Minister of Justice Norbert Mao expressed his support for the PLU’s decision to back Kainerugaba. In a letter to the PLU General Secretary, Mao described the organization’s evolution as a significant turning point and a platform for citizens seeking effective governance.

Prominent business figures Sudhir Ruparelia and Godfrey Kirumira of the Kwagalana Group also signed endorsement documents at the PLU headquarters. Other notable supporters include former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa. The PLU has launched a signature-collection drive with the goal of reaching 20 million Ugandans by September 2027.
