Muhoozi Kainerugaba signals 2031 political ambitions in Uganda

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has signaled his political ambitions for the 2031 presidential elections. He expressed confidence that with the support of his father, President Yoweri Museveni, he could secure a significant majority of the vote. His remarks have intensified public debate regarding political succession in Uganda, where President Museveni has held power since 1986.

Separately, Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE, Zaake Kibedi, identified President Museveni as his primary role model. During a podcast interview, Kibedi cited Museveni’s leadership philosophy—specifically the principle of collective responsibility and following majority decisions to maintain unity—as a key influence on his approach to public service and diplomacy.
