Turkey’s 2009 helicopter crash that killed Great Unity Party (BBP) leader Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu and five others has been re‑examined after 17 years. New inquiries focus on whether the accident was a sabotage‑related assassination, as some media outlets have suggested, or a technical mishap caused by poor weather and an aging aircraft.

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that his newly created “Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department” has resolved several cold‑case murders, linking the renewed attention on the Yazıcıoğlu case to broader efforts against impunity. Former AK Party MP Hüseyin Kocabıyık criticized the timing, arguing the investigation is being used for political gain and insisting there is no evidence of a planned attack.
