Turkey rolls out extensive infrastructure upgrades and reports economic gains in mid‑2026

Mid‑2026 saw a wave of public‑service projects across Turkey. In Muğla, the MUSKİ directorate began permanent water‑supply works for Güllük and Kıyıkışlacık, opening new wells and pressure‑boosting stations to end summer shortages. Gölcük’s Çiftlik neighbourhood completed a full overhaul of water, sewage, storm‑water, electricity and telecom networks, followed by road resurfacing and new sidewalks. Sakarya’s Alifuatpaşa district started a 2.5 km pipe renewal and added a new drinking‑water source to eliminate pressure problems. The Karayolları General Directorate announced temporary road closures for maintenance on several motorways, while Kahramanmaraş district Dulkadiroğlu scheduled extended street‑work periods. Local utilities also planned scheduled outages: Uşak province prepared a one‑day electricity shutdown on 15 July, and Istanbul’s İSKİ scheduled a 15‑hour water cut in Zeytinburnu on 16 July for pipeline upgrades. Aviation traffic continued to grow, with Van Ferit Melen Airport handling 867 000 passengers in the first half of the year and Konya Airport serving 87 382 passengers in June. Economic data showed a rebound in retail sales, up 2.4 % month‑on‑month and 13.7 % year‑on‑year in May, while Çorum’s export volume reached $3.34 billion in the first half of 2026. Bursa’s waste‑storage site approached full capacity, prompting plans for a new treatment facility. The Ege region launched a €20 million golf resort in Dalaman, aiming to boost tourism. Finally, a new “Secure Payment System” will become mandatory for all real‑estate transactions from 1 Oct 2026, ending cash and direct‑bank‑transfer deals. These initiatives reflect coordinated efforts to improve utilities, transport, tourism and the business environment nationwide.
