Multiple vegetation fires and gas explosion prompt emergency response in Dolj, Romania

Between 7 and 8 July 2026, firefighters from the ISU Oltenia in Dolj County, Romania, tackled three separate vegetation and crop fires that together burned roughly 35 hectares of dry vegetation and wheat fields. The incidents, reported in the villages of Perișor (Mărăcinele), Țuglui (Jiul) and Coțofenii din Față, were likely sparked by open flames used in open areas.

In addition, a gas‑bottle leak caused an explosion in the village of Boureni, Afumaţi commune, injuring one person with burns to the face and upper limbs. The victim received emergency medical care and was transported to a hospital. Over the same period, fire crews also supported 28 SMURD missions, providing qualified first‑aid and patient transport.

Authorities urged residents to avoid open fires for land cleaning, to refrain from discarding cigarettes or other ignition sources on dry fields, and to regularly inspect gas installations and cylinders.
