Multiple wildfires sweep Slovenia's Primorska region, arson suspected

A series of wildfires erupted across Slovenia's Primorska region on a hot, dry day. Near Nova Gorica, fires broke out at Bate and above the Kromberk estate, prompting a response from the Public Fire and Rescue Service of Nova Gorica, volunteer fire brigades and three air‑tractor aircraft. The blaze near Bate spread over an area roughly 400 × 100 m, and authorities temporarily banned glider take‑offs from the nearby Lijak airfield for safety.

In the coastal town of Izola, an industrial hall caught fire at night, causing damage estimated at several hundred thousand euros. Further north, police in the Žalec municipality investigated a cluster of small forest fires suspected to be deliberately set, including incidents in Migojnice, Šempeter, Pongrac and other villages. Investigations are ongoing, with potential penalties of up to five years imprisonment for arson. The coordinated firefighting effort involved about 39 firefighters and aerial support, while the police warned of heightened fire risk due to the dry, hot weather.
