Multiverse Computing launches Quasar 438B AI model

Multiverse Computing, a San Sebastián-based company valued at over 1.5 billion euros, has launched Quasar 438B, which it describes as the most intelligent AI model in Europe. According to the Intelligence Index by Artificial Analysis, Quasar 438B scored 43 points, surpassing the 35 points achieved by Mistral Medium 3.5.

Technical documentation suggests that Quasar 438B is based on GLM-5.2, an open-source model developed by the Chinese laboratory Zhipu AI. While Multiverse Computing has not publicly detailed its relationship with the Chinese model, data indicates Quasar 438B may be a compressed version of GLM-5.2 created via the company’s CompactifAI platform.

This compression process reduces the parameter count from GLM-5.2’s 753 billion to 438 billion, significantly increasing speed from 68 tokens per second to 183 tokens per second. The model's performance drop from the original's 53 points to 43 points is consistent with the efficiency gains promised by the compression technology.
