Mumbai Coastal Road: Three dead after speeding BMW plunges off bridge
Three people were killed and one critically injured after a speeding BMW plunged off a bridge on Mumbai’s Coastal Road early Sunday morning, September 20. The accident occurred around 5:20 AM near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala College, as the vehicle was traveling from Marine Drive toward Haji Ali.
According to police and hospital officials, the driver allegedly lost control due to excessive speed, causing the car to hit a barrier and fall approximately 75 feet into a construction area below. The impact was severe, leaving the vehicle heavily damaged. The four occupants were rushed to Nair Hospital, where three were declared dead on arrival. The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal, 17-year-old Dhairya Darshan Seth, and 19-year-old Aditya Jakasniya. A fourth occupant, 23-year-old Aditya Kalpeshwar Oswal, remains in critical condition in the trauma ward.
The incident has reignited concerns regarding speeding and safety compliance on the high-speed corridor. This follows recent enforcement actions by Mumbai Police against luxury car drivers for allegedly racing within the Coastal Road tunnels.
