Mumbai: Two dead and four injured in Ganpati pandal electrocution

Two people, including an eight-year-old girl, died and four others were injured following an electrical accident near a Ganpati festival venue in Mumbai’s Kalachowki area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday near the Mahaganpati Utsav Mandal on Dattaram Lad Marg.

Reports indicate the electrocution was caused by a short circuit in temporary electrical wiring used for festival lighting and a nearby beverage stall. In one account, a family member noted that a tarp filled with water may have contributed to the spread of the current after being disturbed by the crowd.

The deceased have been identified as eight-year-old Ragini Ghanshyam Yadav and 33-year-old Sujata Balraj Thodeti. Four others, including a 12-year-old, were hospitalized with varying degrees of injury.

Emergency responders from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, BEST, and civic authorities attended the scene. Authorities have since cut off the electricity supply in the affected area to conduct investigations into the electrical fault and the safety measures implemented for the Ganeshotsav celebrations.
