Baghpat expressway accident kills several pilgrims
A fatal road accident occurred on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh during the early hours of Monday. A vehicle carrying approximately 32 pilgrims, who were traveling from Rajasthan toward Badaun, struck a divider near the Badagaon cut and overturned.
Reports on the death toll vary slightly between sources, with figures citing between four and six fatalities. Dozens of passengers sustained injuries, with several reported to be in critical condition. Emergency responders, including police units and ambulances, arrived at the scene to rescue victims and transport them to local medical facilities, including the Community Health Centre in Khekra and the Baghpat District Hospital. Some critically injured individuals were referred to higher medical centers for advanced care.
Local authorities, including Baghpat District Magistrate Asmita Lal and Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Rai, visited the hospital to monitor the condition of the injured. Police are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident, though preliminary findings suggest the vehicle became uncontrolled before hitting the divider.
