Fire and structural incidents across India

Multiple fire incidents have been reported across various regions in India, involving diverse causes and locations.

In mid-August, a fire at the Aayakar Bhavan Income Tax Office in Mumbai required the evacuation of the building after smoke spread through the central air-conditioning system, though no casualties were reported. Simultaneously, a warehouse fire in West Delhi resulted in two deaths, with officials suggesting the blaze was likely triggered by an explosion in stored e-rickshaw batteries.

By early September, further incidents occurred in Mumbai, where an LPG cylinder leakage in Dharavi injured four people and a fire at a mobile phone warehouse on Lamington Road led to the rescue of seven individuals. Other reports included a blaze at a closed chemical factory in North Kolkata and a fire in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district that destroyed eight shops, suspected to be caused by short circuits from illegally tampered electricity connections.

Recent reports from early September highlight a major fire at a closed chemical factory in Chitpur, North Kolkata, where ten fire tenders were deployed to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjacent facilities; no casualties were reported. In Mumbai, an LPG cylinder fire in a Dharavi residential unit injured four people, including two children. Additionally, heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh have led to several fatal structural collapses, resulting in deaths in the Kanpur, Bulandshahr, Budaun, and Ballia districts.
