Mumbai Heavy Rains Disrupt Ports, Roads and Rail, Impacting Western India's Supply Chains

Persistent heavy rainfall and flooding around Mumbai have caused severe waterlogging, traffic congestion and landslides, disrupting container movements at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port and nearby Container Freight Stations. The Container Freight Stations Association of India (CFSAI) issued an advisory warning that the conditions have lengthened trailer turnaround times and delayed evacuation of import and export containers. At the same time, landslides blocked the Bhor Ghat railway section between Karjat and Lonavala, halting all three lines of the Mumbai‑Pune corridor, while the Mumbai‑Pune Expressway and portions of the national highway faced closures and slow‑moving traffic. Airport operations experienced flight delays and cancellations. These disruptions affect inbound raw material flows, factory dispatches, warehouse replenishment and last‑mile deliveries across western India, raising logistics costs especially for just‑in‑time manufacturers. CFSAI urged shipping lines, customs brokers, importers, exporters and transporters to adjust plans and cooperate until normal conditions return.
