Mumbai Metro accident: Contractor fined INR 2 crore after fatality
A 54-year-old plumber, Wasi Haider Ismaili, died in Vikhroli, Mumbai, after a heavy iron barricade from a Metro 4 construction site fell onto his motorcycle on LBS Road. The incident occurred while Ismaili was traveling toward Mulund for work.
Following preliminary findings, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has imposed an INR 2 crore penalty on the contractor, Godrej & Boyce. The MMRDA has also ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident. While the deceased's family alleges the barricade was not properly secured, the MMRDA stated its preliminary assessment suggests the motorcyclist may have collided with the barricades.
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the contracting company, its supervisor, and its manager for negligence. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events and whether adequate safety precautions were in place at the construction site.
