Mumbai railway services face disruptions due to maintenance and platform expansion

Central and Western Railway authorities in Mumbai have announced significant service disruptions due to ongoing infrastructure maintenance and platform expansion projects.

Central Railway is conducting a 15-day special traffic and power block from late August through mid-September 2026 to facilitate platform expansion at Titwala station. This work aims to accommodate 15-coach trains. The nightly blocks, lasting five to six hours, affect suburban services between Titwala and Kasara, with many local trains being cancelled or terminated at Thane or Kalyan. Additionally, several long-distance mail-express trains, including services to Amritsar, Banaras, and Bhubaneswar, face schedule changes and potential delays of 30 to 40 minutes.

Separately, a mega block is scheduled for September 6, 2026, to facilitate track repairs and safety works. This will impact the main line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Vidyavihar, as well as the Harbour line services between CSMT and Chunabhatti/Bandra. During this period, some slow local services will be diverted to fast lines, and several down harbour services will be cancelled.
