Mumbai railways announce timetable updates and festival special trains

Western Railway has announced a revised suburban timetable for Mumbai local services, effective September 1. While the total number of services remains at 1,414, the update introduces six new slow local services and withdraws six existing ones. The changes also include an increase in weekday air-conditioned local services from 145 to 147, along with route extensions and terminal adjustments.

Separately, Central Railway is preparing for increased travel demand during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Starting September 9, the railway will operate 262 special train services—comprising 200 reserved and 62 unreserved trains—connecting Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur to the Konkan region and Goa. Over 1.17 lakh passengers have already booked tickets for the reserved services. To manage the influx, authorities are deploying extra ticket counters, security personnel, and additional facilities at major stations.
