Deutsche Bahn imposes extensive S‑Bahn service cuts across Munich, Berlin, Hannover and Bavaria

Multiple S‑Bahn lines in Germany are facing prolonged service reductions due to construction and technical work. In the Munich area, the S5 will run only as far as Aying until 16 October because of bridge repairs in Großhelfendorf, forcing commuters to use replacement buses for the remainder of the route. Weekend work on switches in Pasing further limits service: only the S6 will operate on the main line, while other lines such as S3, S4 and S5 run limited or require bus transfers.

On the Nürnberg‑Regensburg corridor, the S3 will run hourly between Nürnberg and Neumarkt from next Monday, with buses covering the rest of the route until the full line reopens on 1 August after a delayed modernisation. In Hanover, temporary timetable adjustments on lines S1 and S2 have been extended to early August because of ongoing track works and capacity constraints, with replacement buses provided on the affected sections.

Berlin’s Ringbahn is also disrupted: signal‑box repairs at Südkreuz and Bundesplatz have curtailed the S41, S42, S46 and related services, prompting a ten‑minute interval bus replacement and alternate routing via other S‑ and U‑lines. Additional short‑term construction on the Augsburg–Ingolstadt corridor will cause bus replacements in the Ammersee‑Altmühltal network from late July to mid‑September 2026.
