Municipal Care Initiatives Aid Disability Caregivers in Colombia and Ecuador

In the San Antonio de Padua neighborhood of Bogotá, Colombia, about 30 caregivers and people with disabilities attended a community‑wellness session organized by the municipal care system and the local women’s secretariat. The event offered emotional‑wellness activities, information on institutional services and a forum for sharing experiences. Participant Nely Añasco said, “We value the support of institutions because it makes us feel we are not alone,” highlighting the importance of such outreach for unpaid caregivers.

In Guayaquil, Ecuador, the municipal Directorate of Social Inclusion distributed diapers, wet wipes and other supplies to 450 families caring for disabled relatives. The permanent technical‑aid program, which serves a database of roughly 4,500 beneficiaries, aims to ease the ongoing economic burden of disability care. Recipients such as Alba Eduarte and Marcia Ronquillo thanked the mayor, noting that the assistance represents a significant savings for their households and improves their quality of life.
