Municipal council leadership elections underway in Guarapari and Goiânia
Municipal legislative leadership transitions are underway in two Brazilian cities. In Guarapari, the City Council has announced a call for elections to determine the new Board of Directors for the 2027/2028 biennium. Current President Sabrina Astori is expected to be re-elected for a second term, supported by Mayor Rodrigo Borges. Current Vice-President Wendel Lima has also declared his support for Astori’s re-election.
In Goiânia, the succession of current President Romário Policarpo is entering a decisive phase. Mayor Sandro Mabel has expressed a preference for councilman Thialu Guiotti to succeed Policarpo, though Guiotti must still secure a majority among council members. Other councilmen, including Ronilson Reis and Henrique Alves, are also seeking the presidency. The election is expected to take place in early October following the official summons by the current president.
