Municipalities implement flood prevention measures in Argentina and Mexico

Municipalities in Argentina and Mexico are implementing preventive measures to mitigate flood risks caused by heavy rainfall and rising river levels.

In Puerto Reconquista, Argentina, officials are preparing for the commercial port to be submerged by the river. Gabriel Gasparutti announced plans to seal three access gates—at the sand quarry, the Prefectura, and a nursery—to prevent water from entering residential neighborhoods. Additionally, three pumps will be installed in vulnerable areas, including the northern zone and El Arenal, to evacuate accumulated rainwater. The existing defense ring is expected to hold, as it provides protection up to 7.10 meters while the river is estimated to reach 6.30 meters.

In Lerdo, Mexico, the Drinking Water and Sewerage System (Sapal) has replaced a pump at the Quintas Alejandra sump to strengthen drainage infrastructure. Director Alfredo Manuel Molina Macías stated that these maintenance actions are part of a preventive strategy to improve the system's operational capacity and reduce the risk of water accumulation during rain events.
