Municipalities in CZ and SK deploy new defibrillators for public safety

Municipalities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are enhancing public safety by deploying automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to improve response times during cardiac emergencies.

In Kopřivnice, Czech Republic, a new defibrillator has been installed at the town hall entrance, designed for use by the general public through voice and visual instructions. The local municipal police also carry an AED in their service vehicles to provide immediate assistance in the field. Data suggests that using an AED within the first three to five minutes of a collapse can increase the probability of restoring spontaneous circulation to between 50 and 75 percent.

In Štrba, Slovakia, the municipal police have equipped their service vehicles with AEDs to assist both residents and the high volume of tourists visiting the High Tatras and Štrbské Pleso. The initiative aims to provide critical support in mountainous environments where medical emergencies can occur unexpectedly. The local police join volunteer firefighters as first responders trained to provide immediate aid before professional medical services arrive.
