Central European municipal AED deployment

Overview

In Wieprz, a new AED has been installed at the Volunteer Fire Department station within a monitored capsule that automatically triggers an alarm and notifies firefighters upon being opened. In Szczecin, a new initiative titled ‘Safe Heart of Szczecin – AED in Public Transport’ aims to equip 274 public transport vehicles—including 205 buses and 69 trams—with AEDs by the end of 2026. Proposed by firefighters from the OSP Gryf Volunteer Fire Department through the Szczecin Civic Budget, the project is supported by 3.2 million PLN from the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Office. The rollout includes kits with GPS localization systems to increase device accessibility across the city. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, local governments continue to deploy AEDs to enhance public safety. In Kopřivnice, Czech Republic, a new device has been installed at the town hall entrance, utilizing voice and visual instructions for public use. Municipal police in Kopřivnice also carry AEDs in service vehicles.
