Latin American regions launch animal welfare and veterinary initiatives
Various municipalities and organizations across Latin America are launching initiatives to promote animal welfare and public health through free veterinary services.
In Ecuador, the Ministry of Public Health has initiated a national rabies vaccination campaign for dogs and cats, running through November 25, 2026, aiming to immunize over 2.6 million animals. Similarly, in Argentina, cities like Rivadavia and Formosa are conducting mobile veterinary operations providing sterilization, vaccinations, and deworming. In Moreno, scheduled campaigns focus on population control and rabies prevention.
In Chile, the Municipality of Ovalle is implementing a program for 5,000 free sterilizations, while Castro is conducting territorial operations to assist families in rural areas. Additionally, the Anastasia Foundation in Calama is hosting adoption events. In Mexico, the Directorate of Animal Care and Welfare (DABA) is providing free sterilization services in the Parajes de San José colony.
Other regional efforts include Rionegro, Colombia, hosting an Animal Welfare Week with veterinary advice and adoption fairs, and Bucaramanga, Colombia, organizing a national march against animal cruelty alongside donation drives for local shelters.
