Municipality of Almopia launches birth grant applications
The Municipality of Almopia has announced the commencement of applications for a one-time birth grant aimed at supporting large families and addressing regional demographic challenges. Utilizing the new Local Government Code (Law 5314/2026), the municipality provides financial assistance specifically for the birth of a third child or more, with retroactive effect from January 1, 2026.
The grant amounts are structured as follows: €1,000 for a third child, €1,500 for a fourth child, and €2,000 for a fifth child or more. This municipal benefit is tax-free, non-seizable, and is paid in addition to official state birth grants provided by OPEKA.
To qualify, both parents must be registered in the Almopia municipal registry and have demonstrated permanent residence in the municipality for the last two years. Additionally, the annual family income must not exceed €40,000. Applications begin on September 1, 2026, and must be submitted to the Social Service of the Municipality of Almopia.
