Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli announces birth support package

The Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli has announced a comprehensive support package to combat declining birth rates. Mayor Giannis Konstantatos noted that births in the municipality dropped by nearly 50% over a decade, falling from approximately 500 in 2014 to 250 by the end of 2025.

Scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027, the measures include a birth grant ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 euros per child, determined by income criteria. Additional benefits for residents include exemptions from municipal fees for new families, free meals at municipal nursery schools, and free participation in creative, cultural, and athletic programs. The municipality will also provide a package of essential basic goods for infant care upon application.
