Municipality of Northern Tzoumerka introduces 3,000 euro birth grant
The Municipality of Northern Tzoumerka has unanimously approved a one-time, tax-free financial aid of 3,000 euros for every child born or adopted at an infant age. This initiative aims to combat demographic decline and encourage families to remain in mountainous communities.
To qualify, at least one parent must have maintained permanent residence within the municipality for at least two consecutive years prior to the birth. The child must also be registered in the local municipal registry. For married couples or those in civil partnerships, the annual family income limit is set at 40,000 euros, which increases by 3,000 euros for each additional minor child living in the household. For single-parent families, the income threshold is 18,000 euros.
In cases of divorce or separation, the funds are awarded to the parent with sole custody. Under joint custody arrangements, the amount may be split equally or assigned to one parent via a joint declaration. Applications must be submitted within six months of the child's birth, accompanied by required documentation such as birth certificates and proof of residence.
