Muratpaşa municipality pushes youth climate proposals to COP31 in Antalya

Muratpaşa Municipality in Antalya, in partnership with the Social Climate Association, launched a program to bring local climate demands to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31). The first phase, COP Youth Antalya, was held at the Abdullah Sevimçok Civil Society and Innovation Center and gathered more than 150 students from various schools. Mayor Ümit Uysal attended and highlighted that climate change is an economic, political and environmental issue, urging youths to act as solution‑makers rather than passive observers. Participants presented concrete suggestions on the climate crisis, local policies and democratic participation, aiming to have their proposals adopted at COP31.

The initiative’s second phase will be the COP Women Antalya event, also at the same venue, focusing on strengthening women’s role in climate policy and evaluating local and global solutions. The mayor cited the municipality’s “Eco‑Friendly Neighbor Card” as a national model of environmental action and expressed hope that the Antalya contributions will yield positive outcomes for the world, Turkey and the city.
