Muratpaşa Municipality’s Smart Irrigation Cuts Over 5.6 Billion Liters of Water
Muratpaşa Municipality in Antalya upgraded all its public parks to a sensor‑driven smart irrigation system in 2023. The technology waters plants only when needed, eliminating unnecessary water and electricity use.
By July 2026 the system had saved more than 5.6 billion liters (5.627 million cubic metres) of water, with annual savings of 1.355 million m³ in 2023, 1.181 million m³ in 2024, 1.542 million m³ in 2025 and 1.550 million m³ in the March‑July 2026 period. Electricity consumption fell by a total of 2.345 million kWh, with yearly reductions of 564,720 kWh (2023), 492,185 kWh (2024), 642,395 kWh (2025) and 645,664 kWh (Mar‑Jul 2026). Compared with the same months in 2020, the municipality’s electricity use dropped 41.7%, from 1.547 million kWh to 901,102 kWh. Officials say the system improves plant health while cutting resource costs.
